The payout rate (return to player, or TRJ in French) shows what share of stakes a bookmaker pays back on average in a market. The closer it is to 100%, the better the prices.
How it works
Add up the implied probability of every outcome (1 ÷ odds): the payout rate is 100 ÷ that total. Enter the prices of all outcomes in the market (2 to 6).
Worked example (made-up odds)
A three-way match priced 2.05, 3.30 and 3.50 gives implied probabilities of 107.65%. The payout rate is 92.89%, and the bookmaker’s margin 7.11%.
How to read it
- Above 95%: a very competitive market.
- 90% to 95%: average margin.
- Below 90%: high margin, shop around.

Frequently asked questions
Can a payout rate reach 100%?
Almost never, as the bookmaker takes a margin. Very competitive markets get close to 97–98%.
How is it related to margin?
The margin is the complement of the payout rate: 93% means roughly 7%.
Do I need every outcome?
Yes, otherwise the result is meaningless. Enter every outcome in the market (for example 1, X and 2).
